Today I turned 23.
23 has always been kind of a funny number for me. It was the magic number of adulthood. Why? I am not really sure. Maybe because my mom had me (her first) at 23 so for me 23 was the age of maturity, of wifehood and mommyhood etc.
And now I have reached it. The inevitable age of maturity. (ha ha - yah right)
But it's funny.
Because birthdays have changed.
Yes they are still wonderful. There were still balloons at my seat at the table, a card, and a present (a Keurig!!) all compliments of my hubby. There's the phone calls, the texts, and the facebook messages.
But it isn't all about you. There isn't 20 children coming over to put your mother through a torturous night of birthday partying. And there isn't the birthday hat you get to where at school. Instead you still change the same poopy bums, feed the same stinky goats, and do the same dirty dishes.
It's less about you. And more about Him.
One of my wonderful friends texted me this morning wishing me a happy birthday and said she hoped it would be a day reflecting on the wonderful ways the Lord has blessed me. My husband wrote something similiar in my card.
So today is less about me.
More about Him.
23 years.
countless blessings
countless mistakes
abounding grace.
Forever He is Faithful.
I've really learned that this year. A baby and a blood clot will change you.
But He's been here every step (and sometimes fat-legged limp) and that's not about to change.
