People have asked me what it feels like to be a mom, and commented on how it changes your life, and your desires. I have wanted to blog about this for a while and then realized that the poem I wrote for him probably sums it all up!
Dear Levi
In life there are moments,
you'll feel love, the fiercest love.
And you'll wonder if it mirrors,
that of the Father up above.
When you come to realize,
if this is all life is.
It will be enough,
this bond of yours and his.
The Lord has given a gift,
so precious, so unique
You can't begin to fathom,
that he is yours to keep.
From the moment you arrived,
when I could only laugh and cry.
I have come to treasure,
every coo and every sigh.
No one can explain to you,
the difference one little life can make.
When you begin to realize,
you'd do anything for this child's sake.
And you feel like you are always,
trailing one small step behind.
Trying to capture every memory,
and store it in your mind.
From the little arch of your neck,
when you know it's my voice you hear
To the way your eyes start shining,
after a host of tears.
The tickle of your fingers,
as you brush them across my skin.
To the contented sigh and smile,
as you nuzzle beneath my chin.
The expressions that you make,
and sounds so unlike a little one.
To your long arms and bigger feet,
that we sometimes do make fun.
The way your limbs start shaking,
when you've been startled so.
And the serious way you look at us,
what you're thinking, we'll never know.
Just by your arrival
you've made changes, far greater than your size.
Changes I never fathomed,
as I waited for you to arrive.
You've made grown men coo and smile,
just by being you.
And monopolized conversations
by the cute things that you do.
You've turned my husband into a father,
one who deeply loves his son.
And watching the two of you, together,
I believe my heart may come undone.
You've made a couple into a family,
a twosome into three.
Changed passions, wants, ambitions,
so there's only one thing we want to see.
To see you grow up wisely,
with a faith that's strong and true.
A man whose call is to fear the Lord,
that's all we want for you.
It matters not if you achieve,
success measured by other men.
But seek the Lord in all you do,
and you will find blessing then.
The joy that you have brought us,
will continue as you grow.
Your mommy and daddy love you,
of this, you'll always know.
So as the minutes turn to hours,
and the hours into days,
Our prayers is that we'll be faithful too,
and let God direct our ways.
Levi, you stole my heart,
the moment they placed you on my chest.
We'll love you always, no matter what,
for this day and the rest.
so beautiful brought tears to my eyes Kirsten!!! what a well-written poem that I'm sure your son will treasure always!! glad you shared :)
