i'll be honest. baby weight is no fun. not fitting into your shorts is.. you guessed it.... no fun!! I fit into my jeans but i am always a little smaller during the summer and all-this-goodness just won't squeeze into a couple of my favourites.
which most days, i don't care all that much. i have a beautiful baby and a bum leg - both which are great excuses for why i am not at the peak of my physical fitness (although, let's be realistic.... i don't think i have ever been at the "peak" of physical fitness... sports/physical exercise guru - I AM NOT). but other days it can bother me just a bit.
Annnyyyway......
sunday evening dave and i decided that it was a delightfully beautiful night and that we should head it out to the beach for a walk on the boardwalk. it was great. i brought my camera along like all shutter-happy first time moms to document Levi's first time to the beach, but, he slept.
so instead dave and i found a park bench and just watched the sunset and chatted. bliss. i told dave that i was trying to be optimistic about my weight. and he said all the right answers.... blah blah blah.... you're beautiful... blah blah blah. ( i am just kidding about the blah blah blah part. it was very sweet and he is a wonderful hubby - but sometimes hearing it from your husband even if he tells you over and over again doesn't quite do the deed)
then.
cue the best part of the evening.
we are walking past another lovely couple on the boardwalk who want to look at our baby (obviously, 'cause he is, like, the cutest. thing. ever!!) and they ask how old he is...
kirsten: 3 and a half months
kind stranger man: oh just a newbie. Wow, and you look great for just having a baby!
outwardly i smiled and thanked him sincerely. inside i did a happy dance.
as we are walking away, i hear dave utter this under his breath....
"thanks buddy. that's just what she needed"
God uses the most random times and the most random places. He knew i needed a little boost!!
So from now on I am trying to remember, that while it might be embarassing to say something to a stranger - say it!! If you notice thier hair, thier shoes, thier baby.... tell them. it may just make their day.
You were at the beach and didn't come see me?!?!? Boo. But what a nice thing the stranger said...and I agree! You look great...even if your shorts don't fit and you have a bum leg. =)
