date nights for married couples

remember when you were just a young couple (i know, i know... i am not an old couple by any means - but bare with me).

remember when you were just a young couple and all you did was gaze into eachother's eyes, ignore the movies, and count down the days until you could see eachother again. When date nights were carefully planned, hinted at, and included a lot of "i don't care" "where do you want to go" "whatever you want darling"

things have changed.

the movies get watched. the food gets eaten before it's cold.

and there is absolutely. no. hinting.

dave has been in the fields for the last couple of evenings (ie. since last Thursday) so i haven't seen much of him. and i have been cooking a lot of meals that don't get eaten until 10pm.

therefore, here was our phone conversation today:

dave: hello
kirsten: hi, what are you doing
dave: working (such a chatter eh?)

kirsten: ok. are you going to be in the fields tonight?
dave: don't think so. why?

(here's the kicker)
kirsten: ok. then you are taking me on a date.
dave: why
(why? why? - goodness, he used to jump at the opportunity. especially when we were REALLY young and not allowed to go on dates alone..... which by the way my sister is allowed to do - even though she is as young as i was.......................)

but i digress.
back to the conversation

kirsten: because i haven't seen you in a while. and i don't feel like cooking (i don't feel like cooking is actually the main reason but i thought I should add in that i miss him)

dave: ok fine. we'll plan on that. pause. if i am not in the fields.
kirsten: good. bye.
dave: bye
kirsten: (as an afterthought as he's clicks off the phone) i love you.

apparently this is what date nights for married couples look like.
however, because i can't make decisions there still might be a little:
"i don't care, you decide"

except: instead of a "no you decide" it'll be more like "kirst. can't you just make a decision for once in your life. fine. i'll decide again. but then you have to drive home"

kirsten: fine

dave: want to see a movie

kirsten: i don't care.
