One Year Reflections

Our 1 year anniversary is fast approaching and we (...or I) have both been really excited about it since.... um.. the day after our wedding last year. You see I am a little "this time next year" crazy. Last year everyone was tired of hearing (at every semi-important event).

"this time next year we'll be married"

So likely the day after our wedding I probably said something to the effect of " this time next year we will be married a whole year!"

but i digress

due to this monumental occasion - recently i have been reflecting (ok.... wasting time) thinking about this last year.

1 year of marriage has been:
blissful
beautiful
perfect
wonderful
the best days of my life

i know. i know. stop laughing at me.

so it has't been perfect.
there have been blissful, beautiful, perfect and wonderful days. but not all of them.

we have grown as a couple.
we have grown in our faith
we have grown in our understanding of each other

in all reality it has been a great year. I love my husband more today than I did the day I married him.

but i am also much more realistic about the man i married.

he gets grumpy (i never do)
he is moody (i am never)
he gets upset over non-issues (not me.... he just walked through my pile of dirt. no problem!)

i am kidding.
well not really. he actually is all those things. but if i am being perfectly, completely, openly honest.... i might be like that once in a while.

But in all seriousness, how do you post about 365 days of new experiences, new challenges (ie. fighting over the blankets).
how do you post about all the hilarious things that happen
how do you post about how much more you respect the good marriages of the people around you
how do you post about how thankful you are that the dreaded 1st year wasn't as hard as you thought it might be

you can't.

and i love it.
yes there are days i want to kick him out of the house and send him back to his parents. but those are few and far between.

so as i said before i have been reflecting.
thinking about what i would do differently.
what i have told myself a year ago.

and here it is:

besides not feeding my husband chilli.............. (enough said)

i would trust God more

and while this is coming from a couple with very few complicated life issues in the long scheme of things.
I still would
and it's something I want to continue to strive for

- trusting God in our marriage
- in our famillies
- trusting God that his timing and his planning are much better for us than anything this type-A personality could come up with
- it means understanding that prayers might not be answered immediately or how we want (5 pds lighter when i wake up tomorrow, right Lord?)

- it means trusting that God loves members of my family more than we do. and that he can, if it's his will, make things right.

so if i could change 1 thing about this past year
and challenge myself to do 1 thing better

it's that. trust.
i'd trust more.
God more.

as for trusting my husband? i am working on that.... you've never almost ended up in the ditch while driving past a field with a new piece of equipment
