post thanksgiving musings

yesterday was thanksgiving. yes i realize that it was a while back. but alas grandma and grandpa Sjaarda were in holland so yesterday was the Sjaarda family thanksgiving.

it was crazy. nothing out of the ordinary really happened - i just realized once again that my family is pretty darn crazy. amid the loud game of dutch blitz (if that does not mean anything to you please consult my previous dutch blitz post). uncle dave was there. he is just LOUD. everything he does. also my dad has 2 brothers and they are just as loud and as stubborn as he is! my aunts have the oddest sense of humour and my grandpa and grandma get hyper when they have all thier grandchildren around. all culminated by an argument about the christmas exhange..... erego- a crazy family get together.

admist this crazy gang of Sjaarda relatives - tyson - my brother (who also informed me that he does not have a description in the "people" tab of my blog - so here goes) who is growing up... slowly but surely, he has a funny sense of humour, cheats at every game, is very cute (if i do say so myself) is intelligent and somewhat cocky. but i love him. and he has become a young man that i am proud of (was that good enough tysie?). anyway... admist this crazy gang of Sjaarda relatives -tyson- brings his new girlfriend laura. quiet, pretty, lovely laura whose family mostly resides in holland so probably noty used to this!! i am sure she felt very very very overwhelmed. but she held her own and as soon as she said she was born in holland - well she didn`t have to say anything else, she had won the grandparents over.

at the end of our dinner we did our traditional - go around the table and say what we are thankful for . from becoming a teenager, to school, to sisters, to education, to weddings (he he),the example of grandparents, friends, mission trip experiences and a knowledge of what you want to do with your life - our family does have a lot to be thankful for. no death. no divorce. no long term ailments.

yes there are bumps and bruises - but our family has a lot to be thankful for. thank you grandma and grandpa (both sets of mine) for the love and support you provide (i know they`ll read this - they are dedicated followers). thank you for the example you have been, showing us in word and deed, what it means to love your spouse, love your family and love the Lord.

happy thanksgiving!
