saturday night was the Witches Walk in Blyth. it is located on the greenway trail in Blyth and essentially it happens at night (erego - it is dark) and there are creepy decorations and creepily decorated people plotting creative ways to scare the begeebies out of you!
i have never been allowed to go in the past. and because i am such a wonderful, agreeable child i have never gone. this year was to be my "rebellious" year. ha ha. i am just kidding. my friend Nikki wanted to go terribly bad so while the boys were going to be at hockey we made plans to go. in the end we had also convinced Christina to go, and she had to take her nephew, and then Andrea came and her friend Cassie, and then Maddy came too because she didn't want to stay at hockey by herself.
it was a very long line. but we waited... and waited... and waited. and finally we were in.
you must understand - i am a naturally dramatic person and i also get freaked out very easily. what i didn't realize was that madison is such a wimp!!
so we walked along the path and at first we put on a brave front claiming that there was nothing scary. but there was. madison and i were clutching Christina's hand, while simultaneously pushing her into the bushes. we were all fighting over who wouldn't have to be at the sides, and therefore closest to the creepies.
there were a couple of entertaining happenings throughout the evening.
1. there was a man with a chainsaw (without the chain) who started coming towards us. maddy FREAKED so of course he decided to push it further. he walked closer and closer and closer until he was almost touching her with the chainsaw. hilarious.
2. we had to cross a bridge. however, there was an ugly lady with a "bloody" knife motioning a 'come hither' sign. there was NO way maddy was crossing that bridge. she practically ran screaming across it.
hence the 'screams and giggles' title. i screamed.... alot. and i laughed... ALOT. Madison was far more entertaining than any of the scary things that jumped out at us. though i do admit that i was not a brave participant either.
in the end it was good fun, lots of laughs. i am not sure that i am so incredibly hooked that it is going to become an every year occurence (and i thought it odd people brought kids in strollers) but it was fun - and a great option instead of hockey.
i must warn you however that while madison & i were scared - nikki & andrea are not the best people to attend with either.
take this for example
nikki: was walking along having quite the discussion with what she thought were andrea and casie. andrea looked back at her and noticed that she (nikki) was talking to a gorilla. 'oh well' she thought. then all of a sudden it dawned on her. nikki was walking along talking to (they weren't talking back) to a gorilla and a witch. it was very entertaining once she realized whom she was talking to, yelped and took off running!!
andrea: looked back and saw a man running at her with a "knife". what does andrea do? oh that's right. she grabs cassy, swings her around and throws her in front of the assailant.
madison and i are scaredy cats but at least we won't throw you in the line of fire.
ladies. thanks for making such an entertaining evening. and christina... thanks for being our knight(ess) in shining armour!!
