there are some things in this life that bring me a lot of excitement and usually they are the most little tiny things that may pass other people by without so much as a second glance in their direction
here are a few scenario’s that get me excited (and i sincerely hope i am not alone in this)
scenario 1: you sit down to your computer. fire up the internet. open your facebook account…. and YES there it is. that little number in the left hand corner informing you how many notifications you have. 1, 2, 3… or even better… an inbox message. it doesn’t matter! either way at the sight of those little red icons your heart starts to race, your anticipation mounts and you think… YES somebody out there really does love me.
scenario 2:
begins a lot like scenario 1. once again you sit at your computer. fire up your internet and open up your email. and if you are like me there is usually a number sitting beside your inbox indicating mail. this doesn’t extract as much excitement from me because usually it requires sifting. among the 7 emails there is the one from Bootlegger, Expedia, the John Labatt Centre or emails from school clubs you put your email on the mailing list just so you could receive the free mug (sad i know). but sometimes – on your lucky days – admist those other oh-so-unimportant-and-annoying-emails there is a gem. a REAL email. one that you want to read. one that gets you excited and you can’t wait to see what’s inside. Jackpot
scenario 3:
and last but not least there is the best kind of all. this too requires sifting. every day you come home and rediscover the joy of the little red flag up on your mailbox at the end of your laneway. and every day you go through the pile… maybe like I do….

…. =wait – back track! was that an… an… envelope!! addressed to me? in handwriting?JACKPOT!!
bills are forgotten, flyers forgiven, and your hands tremble and you desperately search for your mail opener until you realize it’s a lost cause and RIP IT OPEN in anticipation.
snail mail you are my friend.
you may be wondering why i am writing about this. well last night admist the bills and the flyers there was an envelope. but it looked like a bill. so no high hopes for anything exciting last night. and yet when I opened it… it wasn’t a bill….. it wasn’t a flyer… it wasn’t even a promotional scam…
it was mail – to be more exact...my (sorry... our) marriage certificate. i ordered it weeks ago and it is here!! David john passchier of Ontario and Kirsten renee Sjaarda of Ontario were married June 26, 2010. and the government approves. this indeed IS jackpot.
mail.
who said it was unimportant? who said snail mail is a thing of the past?
you are sorely mistaken my friend.
mail in anticipation - mail is..............glorious!!
